The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) has ramped up its security measures across the city, deploying the vast majority of its personnel to safeguard residents and prevent criminal activities. Police Colonel Cirilo Acosta Jr., the director of MCPO, confirmed that 90 percent of the police force is actively deployed on the ground, with adjustments made daily based on the city's needs.
Strategic Deployment in High-Traffic Zones
According to Colonel Acosta, the police deployment is already operational and is being fine-tuned for areas with large public gatherings. "Our deployment is already active. We are just making adjustments in malls, parks, and other places where people gather," he stated. The strategy focuses on locations with high foot traffic and a history of incidents.
Key areas receiving heightened attention include public markets, shopping malls, and the Mandani Bay development. The police maintain a constant presence through regular mobile patrols and fixed outposts. Acosta highlighted that patrol cars are visibly stationed 24/7 at strategic spots like the Mandaue City Hall plaza to ensure continuous visibility and public reassurance.
Tactical Readiness and School Safety Focus
Beyond regular patrols, specialized tactical units are on standby for rapid response. The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and the Anti-Drug Operations Division are positioned in areas where their specific skills are most required. "Our tactical units are ready to respond whenever and wherever necessary to maintain peace and order," Acosta emphasized.
A critical component of the security plan is protecting students. Police officers have adjusted their schedules to align with school hours, providing a security blanket during peak times. "From 6 to 8 in the morning, our personnel are on duty at schools to monitor the arrival of students," Acosta explained. Officers return for additional monitoring at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m., concluding their school duties by 6 p.m. after students have departed.
A Comprehensive Strategy for a Safer Mandaue
These initiatives form part of a broader, comprehensive strategy aimed at crime deterrence and maintaining public order. Colonel Acosta reiterated the commitment to adaptive and visible policing. "We are committed to providing constant visibility and presence. Even though our deployment is already high at 90 percent, we continue to adjust and respond to areas that need attention," he said.
The MCPO's multi-layered approach combines fixed outposts, mobile patrols, and tactical deployments. This ensures coverage extends from bustling commercial centers to quiet residential neighborhoods, making law enforcement both visible and accessible to the community at all times. The ultimate goal, as stated by Acosta, is unwavering: to make Mandaue City a safer place for everyone.
