Mandaue City Initiates Free Student Shuttle Program with MCCI-Donated Vans
Mayor Thadeo Jovito "Jonkie" Ouano has announced that the Mandaue City Government will commence its free shuttle service for students in the first week of February. This initiative follows the city's receipt of a generous donation of two air-conditioned vans from the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), marking a significant step toward enhancing local transportation for educational purposes.
Initial Routes and Operational Details
The service will initially operate on two routes, selected from six options planned by the Mandaue transport team. All trips will originate from the Mandaue City Hall, strategically located in the central or midtown area where numerous schools and residences are concentrated. Unlike traditional jeepneys that may stop anywhere, this shuttle system will feature six designated stop points, ensuring organized boarding and alighting for students and their guardians.
Priority for Students and Extended Hours
While students are given priority, their guardians or parents may also ride for free, promoting family convenience. The shuttle schedule will align with school hours, covering morning, noon, and afternoon periods until 7:00 PM to accommodate students with shifting classes, thereby providing reliable and timely transportation throughout the day.
Goals and Future Expansion Plans
Mayor Ouano emphasized that this program aims to alleviate family expenses and ensure the safety of children during their commutes. Although starting with just two vans, the mayor expressed optimism about expanding the service in the future as additional vehicles become available, potentially increasing routes and capacity to serve more residents.
