Nationwide Catholic Dioceses to Participate in 40th Edsa People Power Anniversary Commemoration
While the historic Edsa People Power Revolution primarily unfolded in Metro Manila, its 40th anniversary on February 25, 2026, will see widespread participation from Catholic dioceses across the Philippines. The Trillion Peso March Movement has revealed plans for a nationwide commemoration, uniting 86 dioceses in a synchronized event at 4 pm.
Unifying Filipinos Under a Peaceful Campaign
In a recent statement, the Trillion Peso March Movement emphasized its goal to unify and mobilize Filipinos from diverse sectors and faith backgrounds. "We hope to unify and mobilize Filipinos from all around the country coming from different sectors and from all walks of faith, under a peaceful and values-driven campaign," the group declared. This initiative aims to reignite the spirit of the 1986 revolution that toppled the Marcos dictatorship.
Metro Manila Events: Trillion Peso March 3
In Metro Manila, the movement will host the "Trillion Peso March 3" on February 25, focusing on areas in and around Edsa. "Forty years later, Filipinos celebrate and keep the spirit alive of the historic Edsa People Power Revolution against the Marcos Dictatorship through the Trillion Peso March Movement against corruption and political dynasties," the organization stated. They added, "This February 25, we will therefore hold the Trillion Peso March Protest Part 3 along Edsa."
Three Core Themes of the Protest
The protest action is structured around three main themes:
- Honoring Heroism: Paying tribute to ordinary Filipinos who united in a peaceful revolution to overthrow the Marcos dictatorship.
- Ending Systemic Corruption: Advocating for institutional reforms to eradicate the corruption that continues to afflict the Philippines.
- Securing a Future: Striving for a society where citizens triumph over political dynasty control.
"The Trillion Peso March Part 3 brings together leaders of religious and civil society organizations committed to preserving the spirit of Edsa People Power and strengthening our country's democracy," the group explained.
