Seven Minors Identified in Bohol Assault Case Following Viral Social Media Video
The Talibon Municipal Police Station in Bohol has identified seven minors involved in the assault of a man in the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The incident gained widespread attention after a video of the attack went viral on social media platforms.
Details of the Incident and Police Investigation
The assault occurred around 1:00 a.m. near the traffic light at the crossing in Barangay San Jose. Due to the rapid spread of the video online, police immediately launched an investigation under the leadership of Police Major Romar Labasbas. Of the seven minors summoned, aged between 16 and 17 years old, five were found to be directly involved in the physical attack. Two other minors were present but did not participate, merely observing the incident.
Handling of the Case Involving Minors
Because the suspects are minors, the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) collaborated to visit the suspects. On March 19, 2026, the seven minors, along with their parents and the victim, were formally called to the police station. After the investigation, the case was referred to the barangay for mediation, aiming to subject the minors to intervention by social workers rather than pursuing criminal charges.
Additional Complaints and Police Clarifications
Major Labasbas revealed that there is another complaint from a different barangay against the same group of minors. Another victim has reportedly come forward to file a complaint regarding a similar assault. Labasbas clarified that the minors are not members of a gang; they are friends who engage in such behavior as a form of recreation, particularly when under the influence of alcohol. He stated, "Their actions are just for fun; when they find someone alone, they target them. They also admitted to being drunk at the time."
Assurance of Peace and Security in Talibon
Major Labasbas assured residents of Talibon that the town remains peaceful and that this incident is an isolated case. He emphasized that the police continue to conduct roving patrols throughout the municipality to maintain order and safety. The authorities are committed to preventing such occurrences and ensuring the community's well-being.
