Cebu Governor Strengthens Price Monitoring with 40 Municipalities Active
Cebu Governor Boosts Price Monitoring in 40 Municipalities

In a decisive move to safeguard consumer interests, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro has reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment to monitoring the prices of essential goods. This initiative comes as over 40 municipalities across the province are now actively engaged in tracking basic commodities, ensuring market stability and transparency.

Strengthening Consumer Protection

Governor Baricuatro emphasized her unwavering dedication to protecting consumers, stating, "I will not hesitate to take action to shield our consumers. That is why we established the provincial price monitoring system, and thanks to the Lord, many municipalities, now 40, are actively monitoring prices." This statement underscores the proactive approach of the local administration in addressing economic concerns.

Revitalizing Local Price Coordinating Councils

This effort aligns with the broader push to reactivate Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCCs) as mandated under the Price Act. The goal is to combat unfair price hikes and guarantee that consumers have access to affordable products. Following a meeting at the Cebu Provincial Capitol, at least 25 local government units pledged to revive their LPCCs, including cities like Bogo, Danao, and Mandaue, along with numerous towns throughout the province.

Systematic Monitoring and Data Collection

Under this enhanced system, municipal councils are required to report the prices of basic goods on a weekly basis. This provides authorities with crucial data to monitor market trends and implement immediate actions when necessary. The provincial government highlighted that this collaborative measure helps maintain price stability, especially in the face of global events that could impact supply and costs.

Ensuring Supply Stability

Officials have assured residents that the supply of essential goods remains robust, and there is no need for panic buying. Cebu maintains an adequate buffer stock sufficient for at least three months, reinforcing confidence in the local market's resilience. This price monitoring reinforcement demonstrates Cebu's agile strategy in consumer protection and ensuring transparency in the local marketplace.
