Cebu City Police Achieve Major Breakthrough in Weeklong Anti-Crime Operations
In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has reported the successful rescue of more than 600 minors and the arrest of 11 suspects during an intensified police operation spanning from February 2 to 8, 2026. This coordinated effort underscores the authorities' unwavering commitment to safeguarding the community, particularly its youth, from the perils of illegal substances and nighttime hazards.
Rescue of Minors and Strict Curfew Enforcement
As part of a dedicated initiative to protect children, the CCPO rigorously enforced the city's curfew ordinance, leading to the rescue of 638 minors who were found roaming the streets late at night until dawn. These minors were promptly turned over to their respective barangay Gender and Development (GAD) focal persons and social welfare offices for appropriate intervention and support. This move highlights the police's proactive approach in addressing vulnerabilities among the youth and ensuring their well-being.
Drug Seizures and Legal Charges Against Suspects
During the operations, law enforcement officers seized 13.11 grams of shabu, with an estimated street value of P89,148. The 11 arrested suspects have been formally charged with violations of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This legal action demonstrates the police's firm stance against drug-related offenses and their adherence to national laws in combating the narcotics trade.
Coordinated Efforts and Inspections for Compliance
Police Colonel George Ylanan, Director of the Cebu City Police Office, attributed the success of these operations to the intensified implementation of Oplan Bulabog and Oplan Bakal-Sita, carried out in close coordination with Police Regional Office 7 Director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan. In addition to the rescues and arrests, authorities conducted 2,073 inspections of business establishments to ensure compliance with city laws and ordinances. The City Environmental Sanitation and Enforcement Team (Ceset) further issued 21 citation tickets to violators for offenses such as drinking liquor in public places, smoking, and other infractions.
Emphasis on Cooperation and Sustained Campaigns
Brigadier General Maranan has consistently emphasized that cooperation among local government units and other government agencies is crucial in suppressing crime and maintaining public order. Echoing this sentiment, Colonel Ylanan reaffirmed the CCPO's commitment to sustaining its intensified anti-criminality campaign, aiming to ensure a safe, peaceful, and drug-cleared Cebu City. These efforts reflect a broader strategy to foster a secure environment through collaborative law enforcement and community engagement.
