Danao Farmer Apprehended in Police Operation Over Illegal Firearm Possession

A 30-year-old farmer was arrested in Danao City after police conducted a raid on his residence in Sitio Hongbay, Barangay Binaliw, on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The suspect, identified as Lazaro Laurente Lavador, was taken into custody following the seizure of an unlicensed firearm from his home, which came after numerous complaints from concerned neighbors.

Community Complaints Lead to Police Action

According to Police Senior Master Sergeant Raymond Bacordo, an investigator at the Danao Police Station, law enforcement had received multiple reports against Lavador for repeatedly firing his weapon, causing fear and distress within the local community. Authorities had previously issued warnings to the suspect, but he consistently managed to evade capture, prompting a more decisive response.

In response to the ongoing disturbances, police obtained a search warrant from Executive Judge Ma. Josefa C. Pinza-Ramos of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 90 in Danao City. During the execution of the warrant, officers confiscated a snub-nosed .38 caliber revolver and two live rounds of .38 caliber ammunition from Lavador's property.

Suspect Claims Firearm Was for Crop Protection

In his defense, Lavador admitted to possessing the firearm, stating that he used it to scare away monkeys that were stealing his coconut and banana crops. However, this justification did not align with legal requirements for firearm ownership, leading to his arrest and detention.

Currently, the suspect is being held at the Danao Police Station. Authorities are preparing to file charges against him for violations of Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, with formal proceedings expected to commence later today.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by local police to address illegal firearm possession and enhance public safety in Danao City, particularly in response to community concerns over gun-related disturbances.
