Former Cebu Governor Hilario “Junjun” Davide III has been appointed as a consultant for policies and political affairs by the Mandaue City Government.
The appointment came after Davide paid a courtesy call to Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano. Mandaue City Administrator Attorney Gonzalo “Sally” Malig-on confirmed that Davide’s appointment has been arranged.
“We are currently defining the specific terms of engagement. However, the primary direction is to set up a framework where he will serve as an advisor specifically focusing on city policies and political affairs,” Malig-on told the media on June 5, 2026, at the Mandaue City Hall.
Malig-on noted that Mayor Ouano feels very comfortable with Davide. He added that Davide is well-suited for the consultant role due to his deep personal connection to Mandaue.
“Governor Junjun truly lives here in Mandaue City, specifically in Barangay Tipolo, and his family roots are firmly established in this community,” the City Administrator said.
Mayor Ouano expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, recalling how Davide promoted a culture of inclusivity and professionalism when Ouano first entered provincial politics.
“I cannot forget the time when I first joined the Provincial Board back in 2016. Even though I was one of the opposition board members at that time, he never made me feel isolated. Instead, he treated me with utmost respect and professionalism,” the mayor said.
Ouano noted that this foundation of respect has shaped their relationship over nearly a decade of shared service.
“I am happy to work with him again, and this time, right here in Mandaue City,” Ouano added.
Davide’s extensive experience at various levels of local government makes him a significant asset, and his appointment has faced no opposition from city officials.
“No one can question the depth of experience and capability that Governor Davide brings. His track record speaks for itself,” Malig-on said.
