A tragic incident unfolded in the quiet community of Calatrava, Negros Occidental, when a game fowl breeder was shot to death by three unidentified assailants. The violent attack occurred on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the victim's game farm located in Purok Malipayon, Barangay Marcelo.

Morning Routine Turns Deadly

According to Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) records, the victim, identified only as alias "Max," 48, was performing his regular morning duties around 6:30 a.m. when the attack happened. The resident of Barangay Marcelo was checking his fighting cocks when three armed men suddenly appeared and fired multiple shots at him.

The assailants immediately fled the scene after the shooting, leaving the victim with critical injuries. Emergency responders rushed the wounded breeder to Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital in nearby Sagay City. Despite medical efforts, the victim succumbed to his multiple gunshot wounds.

Police Investigation Underway

Law enforcement officers from the Calatrava Municipal Police Station have launched a full investigation into the brutal murder. At the crime scene, investigators recovered crucial evidence including a fired cartridge case of a .45 caliber pistol and a fired 12-gauge shotgun shell.

Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-NIR Public Information Office chief, confirmed that authorities are working to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the suspects responsible for this violent crime. The investigation remains active as police pursue all possible leads.
