Homicide Charges Filed in Bogo City After Fatal Altercation During Drinking Session
A 20-year-old man is now facing homicide charges after a violent incident during a drinking session in Bogo City, Cebu, resulted in the death of his friend. The suspect, identified as Bryan Mangalos Bahinting, allegedly punched the victim during a birthday celebration, leading to fatal head injuries.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The incident occurred on March 11, 2025, in Barangay Nailon, Bogo City. According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Alan Rosario, chief of the Bogo City Police Station, the victim, Marvin Alburo Malinis, 21, a resident of Barangay La Purisima Concepcion, was drinking with friends at his cousin's house for a birthday party. The gathering was initially peaceful until Bahinting suddenly became agitated and began throwing beer bottles, causing chaos.
Fearing the disturbance, Malinis decided to leave and rode on the back of a motorcycle driven by his friend, Niño Bagon. However, as they attempted to depart, Bahinting punched Bagon in the left eye. He then struck Malinis in the jaw with such force that the victim fell from the motorcycle, hitting his head hard on the concrete road.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Malinis was rushed to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo but was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City due to the severity of his head injuries. He was declared dead on March 15, 2025, four days after the incident. Police swiftly arrested Bahinting following a follow-up investigation. Rosario stated, "We arrested him right after the incident. The case has been filed, but we may amend the complaint considering the victim has died."
The case highlights the dangers of alcohol-fueled violence and underscores the importance of responsible behavior during social gatherings. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure justice is served for the victim and his family.
