Mason Found Deceased in Cebu City Residence
In a somber incident early Wednesday morning, a mason was found without signs of life by his coworkers while they were preparing his bed at approximately 3:00 a.m. on March 19, 2026. The discovery occurred on Alcantara Street in Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Victim Identified as Elderly Worker
The deceased has been identified as Totong Ybañez, an elderly individual whose exact place of origin remains under investigation by authorities. Upon receiving the report, the Abellana Police Station swiftly responded to the scene, where they confirmed the victim had no vital signs while lying on his mattress.
According to statements from a site engineer to the police, Ybañez had been suffering from a persistent cough, indicating pre-existing health conditions. A coworker, known by the alias "Junrey," who worked alongside Ybañez, reported observing the victim repeatedly visiting the restroom on Wednesday evening without voicing any complaints or concerns.
Health Issues Preceded Tragic Event
In the days leading up to the incident, Ybañez had been complaining of back pain and was noticed walking with a limp, further highlighting his deteriorating health. In the early hours of the morning, Junrey heard the victim snoring three times before checking on him after a few moments, only to find Ybañez with foam at his mouth and no longer breathing.
The initial police investigation has revealed no evidence of foul play in the mason's death, pointing toward natural causes linked to his health struggles. Authorities are currently intensifying efforts to locate and notify Ybañez's family members about the unfortunate event, ensuring they are informed and supported during this difficult time.
