Mechanic Fatally Attacked by Former Employer in Bantayan City
A mechanic was shot and stabbed to death by his former boss in a violent incident that unfolded on Thursday night, March 19, 2026, in Purok Danggit 2, Barangay Sillon, Bantayan City, Cebu. The attack, which police describe as premeditated, stemmed from a personal and business conflict between the two individuals.
Details of the Fatal Assault
The victim, identified as Ricky Deo Sevilleno, 34, a single resident of NHA Sillon, Barangay Sillon, was declared dead-on-arrival by Dr. Melben Angel Jochico at Bantayan District Hospital. According to medical reports, Sevilleno sustained a gunshot wound to the left temple that exited through the right side of his face, along with seven stab wounds to the chest.
The suspect, Lyndon Paran Baconas, 34, a married businessman residing in the same area, fled the scene immediately after the crime and remains at large. Police Lieutenant Colonel Aldrin Villacampa, chief of the Bantayan Police Station, confirmed that the victim and suspect had a history of personal disputes.
Root Cause: Business Competition Turns Deadly
Investigations reveal that Baconas operated a motorcycle parts business, where Sevilleno previously worked as a mechanic. After leaving his employment, Sevilleno started his own competing business near Baconas's shop, leading to escalating tensions. "They had a conflict because the suspect was angered by the business competition," stated Lt. Col. Villacampa, adding that the rivalry had intensified over time.
Villacampa emphasized that the crime appeared carefully planned, as Baconas allegedly arrived at Sevilleno's shop under the pretense of purchasing tire sealant. Without warning, he drew a firearm and shot Sevilleno in the face. Despite attempts to disarm the assailant, the injured victim was overpowered. Baconas then retrieved a knife and repeatedly stabbed Sevilleno in the chest.
Ongoing Police Manhunt
Authorities believe the suspect has not yet left Bantayan Island and are actively pursuing leads. Efforts to contact Baconas through his wife have been unsuccessful, as his cellular phone remains unreachable. The police have cordoned off the area and are appealing to the public for any information that could aid in the arrest.
