The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) confirmed that the Mindanao Grid sustained no damage and continued normal operations following a magnitude 5.0 aftershock that struck early morning off the coast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
NGCP Reports No Damage to Transmission Facilities
According to the NGCP, electricity transmission services in Southwestern Mindanao remained stable. No damage was recorded at any transmission facilities in the affected area or neighboring regions that felt the tremor, ensuring the grid remains safe and intact.
PHIVOLCS Details on the Aftershock
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the earthquake was tectonic in origin, recorded offshore near Balut Island at a depth of 10 kilometers. PHIVOLCS clarified that this magnitude 5.0 event is an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 main earthquake that struck the same offshore area of Sarangani on June 8. The agency added that no significant damage or hazardous aftershocks are expected from this tremor.
