Malacañang Appeals for Restraint and Compassion Regarding President's Health

In a firm response to recent political commentary, Malacañang has issued a public call for restraint, sincerity, and compassion concerning the health condition of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The Palace emphasized that the Chief Executive's illness should not be trivialized or politicized, following remarks made by his sister, Senator Imee Marcos.

Palace Press Officer Stresses Seriousness of Health Matters

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro delivered a statement on Sunday, urging the public and political figures to treat the President's health with the utmost seriousness and genuine concern. This comes as President Marcos Jr. recovers from a medical issue that necessitated brief hospital observation earlier in the week.

"Huwag natin gawing biro ang kalusugan ng Pangulo. Huwag maging komedyante o payaso sa pagbibigay ng payo," Castro asserted, translating to "Let us not make the President's health a joke. Do not act like comedians or clowns in giving advice."

She further highlighted the need for authentic empathy, stating, "Totoong puso at pagkalinga ang kailangan ng isang tao na may pinagdaanang karamdaman. Huwag magpakaplastik sa mata ng nakararami," which means "What a person who has gone through illness needs is genuine care and compassion. Do not be insincere in the public's eyes."

Background on Senator Imee Marcos's Comments

Castro's remarks were prompted by Senator Imee Marcos's claims that her brother fell ill due to a lack of proper care in Malacañang. The senator alleged that individuals surrounding the President were motivated by personal agendas, rather than his well-being.

This political exchange unfolded after President Marcos Jr. himself provided reassurance about his condition. He disclosed that the discomfort he experienced on Wednesday night was not life-threatening, with doctors diagnosing him with diverticulitis.

Medical Details and Presidential Reassurance

Diverticulitis is a medical condition characterized by inflammation or infection of small pouches in the colon. President Marcos noted that it is commonly associated with factors such as heavy stress or advancing age, providing context to his health situation.

The Palace has assured the public that the President's condition remains stable. Following an overnight medical observation, he returned to Malacañang on Thursday and continues to fulfill his official duties without interruption.

This incident underscores the delicate balance between public health disclosures and political discourse, with Malacañang striving to maintain a respectful and focused approach during the President's recovery period.
