President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has stated that he will support any official chosen by the Senate to serve as the presiding officer in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. The President made this statement when asked if he would back Senator Chiz Escudero should he be elected as the presiding judge in the Senate impeachment court.
According to the President, he respects the power and autonomy of the Senate in matters concerning the selection of the leader for the impeachment proceedings. He emphasized that he has no objection to whatever decision the senators make, as long as it is in accordance with existing laws, follows the prescribed process, and is based on the provisions of the Constitution.
The President stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity and credibility of the process to ensure public trust in government institutions. At the same time, he expressed his readiness to cooperate with the Senate to maintain a harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative branches.
President Marcos also expressed hope that the changes made in the organization and leadership of the Senate will help restore order, expedite the discussion of important legislative measures, and further enhance the functioning of the institution for the benefit of the public.
