Cebu Suspect Confesses to Assaulting Elderly Woman Over Repeated 'Dog' Insults
A 48-year-old unmarried man has been apprehended and is now facing detention after he allegedly kicked a 66-year-old grandmother, claiming that he lost his temper because she repeatedly called him a dog. The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Friday, January 23, 2026, in Sitio Fatima, Barangay Pahina Central, within Cebu City.
Suspect and Victim Identified in Disturbing Altercation
The suspect has been identified as Danilo Villarino, also known by the alias "Iro," who works as a porter at the Carbon Public Market and resides in Sitio Baso of the same barangay. Meanwhile, the victim is Femelita Manguilimotan Tausa, a 66-year-old married woman living in Sityo Taytayan, Barangay Pahina Central.
According to police investigations, Villarino was captured at approximately 2:00 AM on January 24, 2026. His actions were witnessed by the victim's child and several local residents, who subsequently assisted in his apprehension and escorted him to the Carbon Police Station for processing.
Details of the Assault and Suspect's Confession
Family members of the victim reported that Villarino targeted her leg, which contains a stainless steel implant, posing a significant risk of fracture or serious injury. During questioning, Villarino admitted to kicking the elderly woman, explaining that he had reached his breaking point due to persistent verbal abuse.
He recounted that as he passed by the victim, she allegedly snatched the cellphone he was holding while playing a game, nearly causing it to fall. "She provoked me as I walked by. At first, I just ignored it when she called me a dog and a cat repeatedly. But then she even tried to grab my hand while I was using my cellphone, almost dropping it. That's why I kicked her," the suspect stated.
Villarino further elaborated that he has long been sensitive to being called a dog in that area, as it brings back painful memories from his past, even though he now eats wherever he pleases. Following the assault, the victim sustained bruises on her leg from the kick and promptly sought his arrest.
Apology and Legal Proceedings Underway
Despite his actions, Villarino has expressed remorse and apologized to Femelita for what he did. He has pledged to cover the medical expenses for the doctor-prescribed medications required for her recovery. Authorities at the Carbon Police Station are now preparing to file a Physical Injury case against the suspect, ensuring that legal measures are taken to address this violent episode.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about community conflicts and the escalation of verbal disputes into physical violence in urban settings like Cebu City. It serves as a reminder of the importance of respectful communication and the severe consequences that can arise from heated altercations.
