Two members of the Philippine National Police were killed in a violent shooting incident that erupted inside their barracks in Abra province, according to official statements from police authorities.

Deadly Barracks Confrontation

During a press conference held at Camp Crame on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño revealed the shocking details of the Monday evening tragedy. The incident occurred within the barracks of the Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit (PECU) located in Bangued, Abra.

The team leader of the PECU unit, identified as a police lieutenant, fatally shot his subordinate during an altercation. According to initial investigations, the confrontation began when the suspect accused the victim of reporting him to their superior officer for arriving to duty while under the influence of alcohol.

Violent Escalation and Fatal Outcome

The initial attack proved immediately fatal for the first victim. The subordinate police officer sustained four gunshot wounds to the chest, causing instantaneous death according to official reports.

Following the first shooting, the suspect attempted to target another subordinate officer within the barracks. However, this second potential victim managed to defend himself during the attack.

In an act of self-defense, the second officer fired back at the police lieutenant, striking him with a single gunshot that pierced through his chest. The suspect died immediately at the scene from this fatal injury.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

The surviving police officer, who successfully defended himself against the attacking lieutenant, voluntarily surrendered to authorities following the incident. Charges of homicide have been formally filed against the involved policeman as the investigation continues.

The Philippine National Police has launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly barracks shooting. This incident has raised serious concerns about internal conflicts and alcohol-related issues within police units stationed in Abra province.

Brigadier General Tuaño emphasized that the PNP is taking the matter extremely seriously and will implement appropriate measures to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
