Two Men Detained in Cebu City After Police Seize Firearms in Oplan Bakal Sita
Two men were taken into custody after police confiscated firearms during separate operations under "Oplan Bakal Sita" in Cebu City on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The arrests have sparked concerns as authorities investigate potential links to shooting incidents in the area.
Details of the Arrests
The suspects, identified as alias Langaw, 30, a resident of Ermita Proper in Barangay Ermita, and alias Kusinero, 32, from Sityo Ponce 1 in Barangay Carreta, were apprehended during the police crackdown. Langaw was arrested at around 10:00 PM at his location, while Kusinero was taken into custody at 11:30 PM on the same date.
Firearms Confiscated
During the operations, law enforcement officers seized a .22 caliber firearm with two live bullets from alias Langaw and a .38 revolver also containing two live bullets from alias Kusinero. These weapons were immediately secured as evidence in the ongoing case.
Suspects' Defense and Ongoing Investigation
Both detainees argued that they had no malicious intent and merely used the firearms for personal protection in case of emergencies. However, police are continuing their investigation to determine if the two men are connected to any recent shooting cases in Cebu City and the Province of Cebu. Authorities emphasize that this operation is part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and curb illegal activities.
