The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte will proceed on July 6 as scheduled, Senate Secretary and impeachment court clerk Atty. Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed, dismissing concerns over a sealed box of documents from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
Sealed Box of BIR Documents
The sealed box contains income tax returns of Vice President Duterte and her husband, Atty. Manases Carpio. The issue arose after the House prosecution panel requested during a pre-trial conference that the box be opened and marked as part of their evidence.
According to Atty. Bantug, there is no reason for the document issue to affect the scheduled start of the trial on July 6.
Pre-Trial Order to Be Released
The impeachment court is set to release its pre-trial order on June 29. The order will include agreements between the prosecution and defense, such as undisputed facts, lists of witnesses, and the trial schedule.
Both parties have three days, until July 2, to submit their comments on the pre-trial order.
