Cebu's 9,000+ Barangay Health Workers Get Christmas Cash, Uniforms
Cebu BHWs Receive P7,000 Cash, Noche Buena Packs

Over nine thousand barangay health workers (BHWs) serving across Cebu Province are set to enjoy a brighter holiday season following the announcement of substantial cash incentives and additional support from the provincial government.

Financial Boost and Gifts for Frontliners

Governor Pamela Baricuatro made the heartening announcement during the 2025 Cebu Province BHW Summit at the Cebu Coliseum on Friday, December 5. The gathering was held in celebration of BHW Day.

According to details released by the Cebu Province Public Information Office, the financial aid package is substantial. One hundred retiring BHWs will each receive P10,000 as a token of gratitude for their years of service. Meanwhile, all active barangay health workers throughout the province are slated to get P7,000 in cash assistance.

The support doesn't end with monetary aid. The active workers will also be provided with new uniforms and special noche buena packs, ensuring their families can share in a festive holiday meal. The declaration was met with resounding cheers and applause from the participants at the day-long summit.

Recognition for Essential Community Service

In her address, Governor Baricuatro powerfully underscored the critical role BHWs play as the backbone of community-based healthcare in Cebu. She highlighted their tireless work in disease prevention, promoting maternal and child health, and advancing rural health programs.

The governor also gave special recognition to their unwavering dedication and service in the wake of recent calamities that struck the province, including a strong earthquake and typhoons Tino, Uwan, and Verbena.

"Dili mo assistant. Dili mo extra. You are partners in building a healthier Cebu," Baricuatro stated emphatically. She added, "You are the strength behind Cebu's recovery and the hope behind our healthier future."

Calls for Strengthened Support Systems

The summit served as a platform not only for celebration but also for advocacy. Discussions and calls for improved benefits, better working conditions, and stronger institutional support for barangay health workers across Cebu were a significant part of the day's agenda.

The event was also attended by Provincial Board Member Stanley Caminero and Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Elisse Nicole Catalan. To cap off the celebratory summit, attendees participated in a lively Zumba session and enjoyed the Miss BHW competition.
