The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has allocated an initial PHP 464,000 in humanitarian assistance for survivors and the families of those who died in the collapse of a building under construction in Angeles City this week.
Immediate Response and Profiling
According to DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian ordered the immediate profiling of rescued individuals and the provision of appropriate aid, including financial assistance and burial support for the families of the deceased.
Types of Assistance Provided
The aid distributed includes family food packs, non-food items, ready-to-eat food boxes, financial assistance, and psychosocial interventions for the victims and their families. The DSWD also provided transportation assistance to nine workers who wished to return to their home provinces in the Bicol Region after losing their jobs due to the incident.
Livelihood Support for Returning Workers
The agency stated that upon the workers' return to their provinces, they will receive livelihood assistance under the Sustainable Livelihood Program to help them recover and rebuild their lives.
Ongoing Coordination
The DSWD continues to coordinate with the local government of Angeles City and other agencies to ensure that all affected families and survivors of the tragedy receive the necessary support.
