Davao de Oro Provincial Government Honors Women with Month-Long Celebration
The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro has enthusiastically celebrated National Women's Month through a diverse array of activities designed to recognize and underscore the critical importance of women within the province. This celebration forms an integral part of the nationwide observance spearheaded by the Philippine Commission on Women, which aims to bolster awareness and appreciation of women's indispensable role in nation-building.
Comprehensive Initiatives for Women's Empowerment
As part of the month-long festivities, the provincial government organized multiple initiatives to promote awareness of women's rights, gender equality, and empowerment. Key activities included employees wearing purple shirts every Wednesday to symbolize solidarity, providing seedlings to women's groups to support sustainable livelihoods, and delivering free healthcare services to enhance community well-being.
A highlight of the celebration was the Women's Day event held on March 6, which featured vibrant participation. Attendees showcased their energy and creativity in a Zumba novelty dance competition, an exciting component of the broader Bulawan Festival.
Strong Advocacy for Women's Rights and Dignity
In her address, Gender and Development (GAD) Center Head Kris Caballero emphasized that beyond empowerment programs, women in Davao de Oro are deeply valued, respected, and supported. "Our advocacy here in our province is firm—we always take a stand in respecting the rights and dignity of women," Caballero stated. She also acknowledged the significant efforts and contributions of women in driving the progress that the province enjoys today.
Regarding a separate matter, the controversial pageant serenade issue has been addressed by Ms. Maragusan Sam Aldeano, who clarified that the event was entirely professional and free of malice. Artist Dereck Monasterio and Aldeano have both spoken, confirming that the situation has been resolved, with all actions being purely performative in nature.
This celebration underscores Davao de Oro's commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where women's achievements are celebrated and their rights are upheld, contributing to a more equitable society.
