Eala Falls to No. 20 in WTA Finals Race After Madrid

Filipino tennis star Alex Eala dropped to No. 20 in the live WTA Finals Race on Tuesday following her campaign at the ongoing Madrid Open.

From No. 17 last week, Eala collected an additional 35 points to reach a total of 807 after her round of 64 finish in the tournament. However, Marta Kostyuk, Hailey Baptiste, and Anastasia Potapova moved ahead after reaching the quarterfinals.

Kostyuk recorded 930 points to climb to No. 15 from No. 22, while Baptiste positioned herself at No. 17 from No. 26 with 843 points. Potapova jumped to No. 19 from No. 32 after accumulating 827 points.

Eala was also overtaken by Elise Mertens, who rose to No. 18 after securing 830 points from her round of 32 finish in Madrid, where she defeated the Filipina. Despite being overtaken by four players, Eala avoided a further drop as Madison Keys fell to No. 21 from No. 16 due to a lack of points this week.

The official Finals Race rankings, including singles and doubles standings, are expected to be released after the conclusion of the Madrid Open on Sunday.
