A 20-year-old bachelor lost his life after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into an electric post along the national highway in Barangay North Poblacion, San Fernando town, on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Victim Identified
The fatality was identified as Franz Ruel Cabanada, the eldest of four siblings. His girlfriend, Riolyn Trisana, 20, also from Barangay Buhisan, was injured in the incident.
Investigation Details
According to the San Fernando Police Station investigation, the couple was heading home after swimming at a pool during a team-building activity in the town. The motorcycle was reportedly running at high speed, causing Cabanada to lose control and crash into the post.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital, but Cabanada was declared dead on arrival due to severe head injuries.
Mother's Account
In an interview, the victim's mother emotionally shared that she was unaware her son was in the area, as he had not asked for her permission. It was learned that it was Cabanada's first time driving on the highway, and he was believed to have been drinking before the accident.
The mother added that she was only informed by her nephew that her son had been in an accident, but she never expected it to be so severe.
Background
Cabanada was about to enter his third year of college, studying Information Technology (IT). His burial is scheduled for June 7, 2026.
