CJ Perez Clinches PBA Press Corps Player of the Week Award with Historic Performance

San Miguel Beermen guard CJ Perez has been honored as the latest Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Press Corps Player of the Week, following a record-setting display in the Season 50 Philippine Cup semi-finals series against the Brgy. Ginebra Gin Kings last week.

Record-Breaking Game Seals Series Victory

In a decisive 101-88 victory for the Beermen over the Gin Kings in Game 6, which wrapped up their semi-finals series with a 4-2 score, Perez delivered an outstanding 41-point performance. Remarkably, 30 of those points were scored in the first quarter alone, showcasing his explosive start and dominance on the court.

This achievement ties Perez with PBA legend Bong Alvarez for the second-highest points recorded in a single quarter in PBA history. Alvarez also notched 30 points in one quarter when he scored a total of 71 points for the Alaska Aces against the Shell Turbochargers back in 1990.

Perez Reflects on His Confidence and Team Support

Reflecting on his performance, Perez shared insights into his mindset during the game. "Nung na-shoot ko yung una, pangalawa, pangatlo, pag-apat, parang tinira ko na lang, pumapasok. Doon pumasok yung kumpiyansa. And nakikita ko naman sila coach sa bench, talagang tiwalang tiwala. Pag tira ko pa lang, nakikita ko 'yung mukha nila, hindi sila nakasimangot," he stated, as reported on the official PBA website. This quote highlights how his early shots built his confidence and the unwavering support from his coaches, which fueled his record-setting run.

The recognition as Player of the Week underscores Perez's pivotal role in leading the San Miguel Beermen to a crucial series win, solidifying his status as a key player in the PBA and earning accolades for his exceptional skills and game-changing impact.
