EASL Basketball Returns to Cebu for Typhoon Relief

Basketball Returns to Cebu as a Beacon of Hope After Calamity

In the wake of a magnitude 6.9 earthquake and the devastation of Typhoon Tino, basketball fans in Cebu are set to witness a thrilling game that aims to provide solace and support. The East Asia Super League (EASL) makes its much-anticipated return to the province with the Meralco Bolts hosting the Macau Black Bears this Saturday, November 15, 2025.

The exciting Group B elimination match will tip off at 6:00 PM at the newly renovated Cebu Coliseum. In a significant move for community support, all proceeds from the game will be donated as aid to those affected by Typhoon Tino, which ravaged Cebu on November 4 and claimed hundreds of lives.

A Crucial Match for Meralco Bolts and a Season Debut for Macau

The EASL authorities have partnered with the Cebu City government to promote this event, highlighting the unifying power of sports in times of crisis. Representing the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), the Meralco Bolts currently hold a 1-2 record in the league.

This game marks the first outing of the season for the Macau Black Bears. The Bolts are coming off a morale-boosting victory against the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots, which they won 85–76 in their first home game at the Capital Arena in Ilagan, Isabela. That win snapped a two-game losing streak.

Key Players to Watch in the Cebu Clash

In their previous win, the Bolts were powered by a strong performance from their imports. Both Vahedi Mohammadsina and Puerto Rican Ismael Romero led the scoring with 22 points each.

Adding to the firepower was a familiar face in Philippine basketball, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who contributed 15 points. Local star Chris Newsome also made a significant impact with 14 points. This blend of international and local talent promises an exciting game for Cebuanos. This event echoes the EASL's previous successful hosting of its Final Four games in Cebu back on March 8-10, 2024, at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
