AVC Motors, led by Adriano "Ading" Catli, clinched the championship of the recently concluded 14th Season Henrik Chu Basketball Tournament held at Benedicto College Gymnasium A.S. Fortuna Banilad, Mandaue City, on Monday, June 8, 2026.
AVC Motors defeated SMDI Selection, 67-45, under the leadership of back-to-back MVP Joseph Lumanog, who scored 16 points and eight assists, aided by the dynamic duo of Bernalo Almacin and Cristorie Tampus, who combined for 26 points.
Youngster Eron Martinez also made his presence felt by hitting two consecutive three-pointers to put SMDI Selection away, 42-26, at the end of the second quarter.
Playing coach Jeffrey Formentera's SMDI Selection rallied through tight defense and sharp offense from Danreb Falcatan, Ronaldo Fernandez, and Roland Caingcoy, cutting AVC Motors' lead to 48-40 and thrilling the partisan crowd.
AVC Motors coach Ernie Garido quickly called a timeout. In the final quarter, a 10-2 run sparked by Lumanog and Almacin paved the way for AVC, and they never looked back to secure the victory and claim their third straight championship.
In the first game, HMAC Motors, led by playing coach Randy Salazar, defeated SMDI Mac, coached by Noli Ibañez, 66-61, to take third place. SMDI Mac led from the start, but HMAC unleashed their offense in the final two minutes to seize the lead and the win.
Heroes for HMAC Motors were the pairing of Christian Palban and Ruel Gonzalez, who scored 16 and 14 points, respectively. Center Mark Jimenez and slasher Anchuvie Lucido also contributed to the victory. The losing SMDI Mac was led by Aaron Ouano and Yaun, who had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The annual sporting event was supported by the management of SMDI and HMAC Motors, with assistance from Freepoint Motorcycle and Parts of John Frederick Sin and businessman Adriano "Ading" Catli.
