In their conference opener last Friday, March 13, the Road Warriors narrowly edged out the scrappy Blackwater Bossing with a final score of 84-81. Securing an early win is crucial for NLEX, as their upcoming schedule features a gauntlet of traditional heavyweight contenders over the next three outings.
Star guard Robert Bolick, who delivered a clutch performance with 24 points against Blackwater, highlighted the importance of this initial victory. "Importante sa amin itong first game kasi 'yung next three games namin championship contenders," Bolick stated, referring to looming challenges against Magnolia, defending champion TNT, and crowd-favorite Barangay Ginebra in the coming weeks. He added, "So kailangan namin ng momentum papunta sa doon," emphasizing the need for a winning streak early in the conference.

Despite the opening-day success, NLEX head coach Jong Uichico admits the team remains a work in progress, especially after integrating new players into the rotation. "We're still looking for the right combination, chemistry but mabuti na lang na-overcome namin yung magandang laro ng Blackwater.
