UV Green Lancers Capture Championship in Thrilling Bulacao-Talisay Sinulog Cup Final

In an exhilarating display of collegiate basketball prowess, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers emerged victorious over the Benedicto College (BC) Cheetahs with a final score of 80–72. This championship clash marked the culmination of the recently concluded Bulacao-Talisay Sinulog Cup Inter-collegiate Invitational basketball tournament, held at the Bulacao Sports Complex in Talisay City on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Dominant Start and Key Performers Propel Green Lancers to Victory

Guided by the leadership of Kent Ivo Salarda, the Green Lancers entered the court with a clear mission to reclaim the title they had lost in the previous year. The team wasted no time, unleashing an aggressive offensive strategy that quickly set the tone for the game. By the end of the first half, UV had established a commanding 50–27 lead, putting them in a strong position for what seemed like an assured win.

Salarda, who is also the reigning MVP Cesafi awardee, delivered an outstanding performance, earning him the tournament's Most Valuable Player award. He was ably supported by teammates who scored in double figures: Karl Hyden Cabulao contributed 12 points, AJ Sacayan added 11, Ivan Clark Alsola chipped in with 11, and Winston Bingil provided 10 points, showcasing the team's balanced and potent attack.

Benedicto College Cheetahs Mount Fierce Comeback Attempt

Despite the early deficit, the Benedicto College Cheetahs, under the guidance of coach BJ Murillo, refused to surrender easily. In the latter stages of the game, they mounted a spirited rally, spearheaded by the combined efforts of Jhon Loufred Diamante, Kenneth Babalcon, Serge Gabinez, and Vince Alfred Mananquil. Their relentless push managed to cut the deficit significantly during the final four minutes of the fourth quarter, injecting suspense into the match.

However, after a strategic timeout, the Green Lancers regrouped and demonstrated their composure under pressure. They closed out the game with a strong finish, securing the championship title in this four-day competition and reaffirming their status as a top contender in inter-collegiate basketball.

Community Celebration and Leadership Recognition

The tournament was an integral part of the activities leading up to the upcoming Barangay Bulacao fiesta, organized under the leadership of Barangay Captain Banjo Abastillas. Following the championship game, Captain Abastillas, along with his councilors, presented the MVP trophy to Kent Ivo Salarda in a ceremony that highlighted the community's support for local sports.

In expressing gratitude, Abastillas acknowledged all those who contributed to the success of the league, with special thanks extended to Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas for his unwavering support. This event not only celebrated athletic achievement but also strengthened community bonds through sports, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and excellence in Talisay City.
