Danao City Unveils Third International Ultra Trail with Enhanced 2026 Challenge

The organizers of the 3rd Danao City International Ultra Trail (DCIUT3) presented the details during the official launch of the competition recently. The City Government of Danao formally introduced the event through a press conference held in the past few days.

Event Details and Challenging Categories

The competition, scheduled for April 18-19, 2026, comprises four distinct categories designed to test endurance and skill. These include a 5 km route, a 35 km challenge, a demanding 50 km course, and the highly anticipated 100 km crisscross of Danao City's mountain range. The 100 km race will traverse five iconic peaks that define the region's rugged landscape.

The peaks featured in this extreme route are:

  • Mt. Lantawan (Cahumayan)
  • Mt. Mago (Santican)
  • Danasan Peak
  • Licos Peak
  • Mt. Manghilao (Masaba)

Each peak offers a unique trail segment that presents significant physical challenges while showcasing the breathtaking natural scenery of the Danao highlands. The varied terrain ensures that participants experience both the difficulty of the ascent and the visual rewards of the panoramic views.

Elevated Experience and Race Director's Vision

Race director Herson Ypil emphasized the enhancements for the 2026 edition, stating, "For 2026, we elevated the experience—tougher, sharper and more rewarding than ever." He explained that the evolution in trail design and race structure has positioned the DCIUT as one of the most difficult ultra trail events in the entire Philippines.

The meticulous planning behind the routes aims to provide an unparalleled adventure for trail running enthusiasts, combining technical difficulty with natural beauty.

Tourism and Community Development Focus

Danao City Mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano highlighted the broader significance of the event in his message. He noted, "This international sporting event highlights our city tourism story of people, places, and peaks. Only by involving the people can tourism truly become a tool in development."

The ultra trail serves not only as a competitive platform but also as a catalyst for promoting local tourism and engaging the community in sustainable growth initiatives.
