Davao Eagles Secondary Latin Dancesport Team Targets Gold Medal Sweep at Palarong Pambansa 2026
The Davao Eagles secondary Latin American dancesport team is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa 2026, set to be held in Agusan del Sur. Under the guidance of coach Edsel Reyan Carlo Oliver, the squad has implemented a demanding daily training regimen as it sets its sights on a complete gold medal sweep in the competition.
Rigorous Training Schedule and High Expectations
Coach Oliver detailed the team's intensive routine, which blends endurance work with technical precision. "Our usual training starts at 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. for jogging and stamina. Then from 1 p.m. to 6 or 7 p.m., we do intensive training," he explained. The team dedicates nearly every day to practice, accumulating five to six hours of preparation daily. "As much as possible, we train 5 to 6 hours a day," Oliver added, emphasizing the continuous buildup since the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2026 concluded.
Motivated by last year's performance, where the team secured one gold and five bronze medals, Oliver expressed ambitious goals for this year. "We are aiming for six golds. Last year, we got one gold and five bronze medals. This year, we will push for all the gold medals," he stated confidently. Despite the challenges ahead, Oliver remains optimistic about the team's prospects, asserting, "We will do our best to make it possible, especially to win gold medals."
Key Dancers Leading the Charge
Spearheading the campaign are standout dancers Angel Jane Tinambacan and John Terence Cuizon from Doña Carmen Denia National High School in Davao City. The duo has already proven their mettle on the national stage, having won a gold medal in cha-cha-cha and bronze medals in samba, rumba, paso doble, jive, and the five-dance event at the 2025 Palarong Pambansa in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte.
Recent training sessions, including those held at GMall Toril on April 8 and 10, have focused on sharpening the team's form as they gear up to compete against the country's top dancers. With their eyes set on victory, the Davao Eagles are poised to make a significant impact at the national event, showcasing their dedication and skill in the Latin dancesport division.
