On its fifth year of organizing a nationwide barista competition, the Philippine Coffee Board (PCBI) brought the VisMin Eliminations of the ASEAN Barista Team Championship (ABTC) to MAFBEX Davao. The event took place on May 9, 2026, at SMX Lanang.
Competition Highlights
Five teams from Davao, Bukidnon, Sultan Kudarat, and Iloilo competed onstage. Team Davao's Finest emerged as champion, while Ilonggo Brewthers secured first runner-up. Both teams will advance to compete against Luzon and NCR champions at the national finals on June 11 at MAFBEX Manila. As in previous years, the overall champion and first runner-up will represent the country at ABTC next year.
Format and Rules
The ABTC is open to team players who demonstrate speed, accuracy, and craftsmanship. Each team consists of four members, who may come from the same or different cafes. The competition simulates the pressure of espresso bars worldwide. Within limited time, baristas must work as a team to deliver fast service and excellent presentation while maintaining quality and accuracy. Teams must make 20 coffees in 15 minutes and then 15 coffees in 10 minutes. They serve required drinks from Beverage Menu Cards, covering take-out and dine-in scenarios across all categories.
Judging and Support
The judges comprise baristas and F&B professionals with years of experience in the coffee industry, including former members of the Philippine Team. PCBI's partners include Blu Coffee Distributors, Silca Coffee Roasters, Alaska Professional, Equiilibrium Intertrade Corporation, Mayora Vouno Trade and Marketing Services Corporation, Haig & Lee Import Export Corporation, Barista Depot, Conlins Coffee World, Inc., IAJ Wellness Corporation, and SWEETLiNK. Supporting partners are Philippine Airlines and Unilab.
