The Davao Eagles secondary girls' football team is gearing up for a historic moment as they prepare to compete in the Palarong Pambansa, following their gold medal victory at the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2026 in Tagum City. This year marks a significant milestone, with girls' football being included in the national games for the first time, thanks to approval from the Department of Education and the Philippine Football Federation.
Intensified Training Regimen
Head coach Alvic Troyo has implemented a disciplined training schedule to ensure the team is ready for the national stage. In March, the team trained three times a week to accommodate school commitments, but starting April 6, they shifted to daily sessions. By April 20, the intensity will increase further with twice-daily training to enhance fitness and game execution.
Troyo emphasized the importance of balancing academics and athletics, stating, "We adjusted our schedule to scale up as the competition nears, ensuring our players stay focused and prepared."
Team Goals and Strategies
Despite this being their national debut, the Davao Eagles have set ambitious targets. "Our goal is to reach the top two in the rankings," Troyo said, highlighting the team's confidence and determination. Defender Bea Joy E. Bajenting added that teamwork and shared responsibility are key strengths, with defenders playing a crucial role in organizing and protecting their side.
The players have pushed their limits in training to match the expected competition level, overcoming challenges such as fatigue and extreme heat. Bajenting noted, "We rely on communication and discipline to stay cohesive, addressing issues early to maintain consistency in performance."
Collective Effort Over Individual Play
Coach Troyo stressed that success will depend on collective effort rather than individual talent. The team's focus is on staying organized and confident throughout matches, with a roster of dedicated players including Bea Joy E. Bajenting, Richille A. Bocar, and others listed in the original article.
As the Palarong Pambansa approaches, the Davao Eagles are committed to representing Region 11 with pride, building on their Davraa championship win and aiming to make a strong impact in this groundbreaking year for girls' football.
