Mandaue City Sports Complex Set to Reopen in Three Months Following Major Renovation
The Mandaue City Sports Complex is poised to welcome the public once again within the next three months, as the City Government diligently advances its comprehensive P31-million renovation initiative. This ambitious project is specifically designed to modernize and enhance the aging facilities, ensuring a superior experience for all visitors and athletes.
Official Inspection and Project Overview
City Administrator Gonzalo "Sally" Malig-on recently disclosed that Mayor Thadeo Jovito "Jonkie" Ouano, accompanied by Councilors Ben Basiga, Dante Borbajo, and Joel Seno, conducted a thorough site visit to the sports complex. The primary objective of this inspection was to closely monitor the ongoing renovation progress and identify any additional improvements that could further elevate the facility's standards before its grand reopening.
The renovation encompasses significant upgrades across multiple key areas:
- Complete refurbishment of the stage
- Installation of new, durable flooring
- Renovation of bleachers for enhanced spectator comfort
- Extensive improvements to comfort rooms, including restrooms located outside the main complex and near the tennis courts
Addressing Long-Standing Concerns
Malig-on emphasized that rectifying the poor condition of the facility's restrooms has been a top priority for the City Government. For years, these facilities have been a significant concern for visitors and regular users of the complex, detracting from the overall experience.
"If you had visited the sports complex before, especially the restrooms outside and near the tennis courts, you would have seen that they were already in very poor condition. Now, the improvements are noticeable," Malig-on stated, highlighting the tangible progress already achieved.
The mayor's personal involvement in the inspection underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring the project not only meets but exceeds public expectations. "The mayor visited the site to check the progress and see what other improvements could still be suggested," Malig-on added, reinforcing the hands-on approach being taken.
Temporary Closure and Phased Reopening
While the sports complex has been temporarily closed to facilitate the extensive renovations, certain portions of the venue remain accessible for limited events. Notably, activities related to Miss Mandaue have been accommodated, with the stage being among the first areas to receive priority upgrades.
Construction commenced in late March, and if the current schedule is maintained, the fully upgraded sports complex is projected to be ready for public use within three months. This timeline reflects the City Government's efficient planning and execution of the renovation project.
Enhancing Community Facilities
The P31-million renovation is expected to deliver a more modern, comfortable, and functional sports venue for the residents of Mandaue. By addressing long-standing facility issues, the project aims to significantly improve the public's experience, fostering greater community engagement and promoting active lifestyles.
This investment not only revitalizes a key public asset but also demonstrates the local government's dedication to enhancing infrastructure and quality of life for its citizens. The upgraded Mandaue City Sports Complex is set to become a premier destination for sports, events, and recreational activities in the region.
