Cesafi Postpones Games Due to Typhoon Tino and Uwan Threats
Cesafi Postpones Games Over Typhoon Safety Concerns

The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) has officially postponed all scheduled games from November 10 to November 16, 2025, citing safety concerns following the devastating impact of Typhoon Tino and the approaching threat of Super Typhoon Uwan.

Safety Concerns Prompt Schedule Changes

Commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy Jr. issued an official memorandum to all member schools on Sunday, November 9, 2025, announcing the week-long suspension of athletic activities. The decision comes as Cebu continues to recover from severe flooding caused by Typhoon Tino, which struck the region on November 4, 2025.

The memorandum explicitly acknowledged the difficulties faced by student-athletes, particularly those directly affected by the catastrophic flooding. "We recognize and acknowledge the difficulties and challenges everyone is facing right now," stated Commissioner Tiukinhoy in the official communication.

Dual Typhoon Threats Force Action

Typhoon Tino's impact has been severe, resulting in hundreds of casualties across affected areas. The storm caused extensive damage throughout Cebu, creating challenging conditions for recovery efforts.

Compounding the situation, Cebu has been placed under Signal No. 1 due to Super Typhoon Uwan, which has already demonstrated significant destructive power in Luzon. The wide coverage of Typhoon Uwan presents additional safety concerns for all stakeholders involved in Cesafi activities.

The league's decision to postpone games serves dual purposes: allowing time for recovery from Typhoon Tino's effects while enabling preparation for the potential impact of Super Typhoon Uwan.

Second Postponement This Season

This marks the second time Cesafi has rescheduled games during the current season. The first postponement occurred following a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that shook Cebu earlier in the season, demonstrating the league's commitment to prioritizing safety above competition schedules.

All athletic competitions are scheduled to resume on November 17, 2025, assuming weather conditions and safety concerns permit normal operations. The league continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary to ensure the wellbeing of all participants.
