Three workers were arrested after allegedly stealing and butchering a valuable Arapaima fish from a resort in Pagbilao, Quezon. The Arapaima, estimated to be 25 years old, over six feet long, and weighing around 90 kilograms, was valued at approximately P7 million due to its rarity and the resort's long-term care.
Incident Details
According to police investigation, the suspects were seen collaboratively removing the large fish from the resort's fishpond and bringing it to their quarters within the establishment. The workers then killed and butchered the fish in a restroom, intending to divide the meat among themselves to bring home to their families for food.
A security guard at the resort immediately reported the incident to authorities, leading to the arrest of the three suspects and the recovery of some parts of the butchered fish.
Legal Proceedings
The suspects were taken into custody at the Pagbilao Municipal Police Station for inquest proceedings and preparation of charges. They face complaints of qualified theft as police continue their investigation into the incident.
According to Bombo John Flores, the Arapaima is a rare species that the resort had been caring for over many years, contributing to its high valuation.
