DMW Rescues 206 OFW Applicants from Poor Housing

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) rescued over 200 overseas Filipino worker (OFW) applicants from substandard accommodation facilities in Metro Manila and Cavite during simultaneous operations.

Details of the Rescue Operations

In a press briefing on Sunday, June 7, 2026, DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia reported that 206 OFW applicants were rescued from illegal and substandard facilities operated by five recruitment agencies. Of the total, 151 were rescued in Manila from facilities run by Job Connections, TS Pizarro, and JPM88/AAV Talent Training and Management. The remaining 55 were rescued in Imus, Cavite, from accommodations operated by Samantha Manpower and Prime Goal.

Immediate Assistance Provided

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the rescued applicants will not be deployed for the time being but have been given immediate support. This includes temporary shelter, emergency medical assistance, legal support, financial aid, and access to training, education, livelihood, and reintegration programs.

Accountability and Legal Actions

Olalia stated that the five recruitment agencies will be held accountable. Charges are being prepared against Job Connections, TS Pizarro, JPM88/AAV Talent Training and Management (all in Metro Manila), as well as Samantha Manpower and Prime Goal (both in Cavite). Many applicants reported waiting six months to a year for deployment as domestic workers to the Middle East while living in overcrowded, poorly ventilated, and unsanitary conditions. They also cited restricted movement, harassment, and unauthorized fee collections.

Cacdac has ordered the filing of administrative and criminal charges against the agencies and individuals responsible. The DMW is also investigating possible human trafficking violations.
