The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) launched the Proficiency Firing Program on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the newly renovated firing range inside Camp Sotero Cabahug on Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.
Program Objectives
The program aims to enhance police officers' skills in using their firearms, ensure their operational readiness, and improve their capacity to handle situations related to public safety and security.
The launch was attended by city police officials led by Police Colonel George Ylanan, CCPO chief. Also present were representatives from the Cebu City Peace and Order Council, including City Councilor Paul Labra and Arnel Tancinco, Chief of Staff of the council.
Support for Police Training
Their presence demonstrated support for the continuous training of police personnel to keep them prepared and capable of fulfilling their duties.
During the program, participants were reminded that firearms proficiency is a crucial aspect of police service because it directly contributes to safe and effective law enforcement.
Ylanan emphasized the importance of the Proficiency Firing Program in developing discipline, shooting accuracy, sound judgment, and responsible use of firearms—qualities every police officer needs to protect the public.
Scheduling and Oversight
After the ceremonial opening, CCPO personnel were given schedules for their firing exercises under the strict supervision of range officers and safety personnel.
Ylanan did not disclose whether there would be penalties for officers who fail the program. However, he ordered all CCPO members to participate and undergo the Proficiency Firing Program as part of efforts to restore the police force's reputation as “Cebu’s Finest.”
