The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region 7 officially turned over nine communal irrigation systems and projects to Cebu during a convergence meeting with stakeholders on June 16, 2026.
Turnover ceremony led by NIA officials
Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez, the provincial consultant on agriculture and food security for Cebu, reported the development through a Facebook post on Thursday, June 18. Sanchez witnessed the event on behalf of Governor Pamela Baricuatro. The turnover ceremony was led by NIA 7 Regional Manager Engr. Eusebio S. Villamanto and NIA Cebu Division Manager Engr. Maritez I. Soria. Cebu Province Investment and Promotions Officer Paulo Uy also attended the meeting.
Projects worth P66 million
The turned-over projects totaled P66 million and included: Matun-ug Communal Irrigation System (Matun-og, Balamban) – P1 million, received by Matun-og Spring Irrigators Association Inc.; Manunggal Communal Irrigation System (Sunog, Balamban) – P4.9 million; Lamac Punod Sibago Communal Irrigation System (Lamac, Pinamungajan) – P3.2 million; Hingatmonan Communal Irrigation System (Hingatmonan, Balamban) – P3.9 million; Aloguinsan Communal Irrigation System (Poblacion and Tampa-an, Aloguinsan) – P2 million, received by Poblacion Tampa-an Irrigation Administration Inc.; Argao Communal Irrigation System (Lamacan, Argao) – P10 million, received by Argao Irrigation System Association Inc.; Can-asujan SRIS (Carcar City) – P10 million, received by Carcar United Lowland Farmers Irrigators Association Inc.; Can-asujan SRIS (Carcar City) – P18 million, received by Integrated Carcar Rice Irrigators Association Inc.; and Can-asujan SRIS (Can-asujan, Carcar City) – P10 million, received by Integrated Carcar Rice Irrigators Association Inc. or CDF.
Impact on local agriculture
These irrigation systems are expected to boost agricultural productivity in the province by providing reliable water supply to farmlands. The turnover underscores NIA's commitment to supporting local farmers and enhancing food security in Cebu.
