P30-Million Fish Port to Boost Pampanga's Fishing Industry in Lubao

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has announced plans to construct a P30-million fish port in Lubao town, Pampanga, a project aimed at significantly enhancing the local fishing industry. This development follows a recent meeting between BFAR Central Luzon Director Wilfredo M. Cruz and Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda to finalize the details, with the port expected to serve the second district of Pampanga.

Enhancing Access and Reducing Losses

Provincial officials have highlighted that the new facility will provide easier docking and trading access for fishermen, particularly those from nearby coastal communities. By streamlining operations, the fish port is anticipated to reduce transport time and minimize post-harvest losses, which are common challenges in the fishing sector. Governor Pineda is also set to request the establishment of a cold storage facility to support long-term logistics and distribution, further bolstering the industry's efficiency.

Additional Support for Fishermen

In a related initiative, BFAR, in partnership with the provincial government, is scheduled to distribute approximately ?5 million worth of tilapia fingerlings, fishing paraphernalia, and fish processing tools this year. This support aims to equip local fishermen with the necessary resources to improve their livelihoods and sustain the region's aquatic resources.

The construction of the fish port represents a strategic investment in Pampanga's economy, promising to boost trade, reduce waste, and enhance the overall productivity of the fishing community in Lubao and its surrounding areas.
