Filipino boxer Joseph "The Hunter" Sumabong unified two regional titles after a dominant unanimous decision victory over Taiwanese Jheng Ciou "Baby Face Killer" Ciou in the main event of "Kumong Bol-anon 25" on July 11, 2026, at Holy Name University Patrick Brader Gym in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Sumabong Captures OPBF Title
With the win, Sumabong seized the Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) minimumweight title from Ciou, adding it to his existing World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) minimumweight titles. The judges scored the bout 99-90, 97-92, and 98-91 in favor of Sumabong.
During the first six rounds, Ciou pressed forward but was repeatedly caught by Sumabong's powerful punches, even as Sumabong moved backward. At one point, Sumabong dropped Ciou with body shots, but Ciou recovered quickly and was not seriously hurt.
Sumabong Takes Over in Later Rounds
Starting the seventh round, Sumabong became the aggressor. Though he failed to knock out Ciou, he outlanded and outworked his opponent until the final bell. Sumabong acknowledged Ciou's toughness, saying, "I expected (Ciou to be strong). From round one, he showed he's a champion. He displayed veteran moves and proved he's a tough champion."
Sumabong improved to 11-1 with 5 knockouts, while Ciou fell to 9-1-1 with 8 knockouts.
Manager Eyes Next Fight
PMI Bohol Boxing Stable chief Atty. Floriezyl Echavez-Podot, Sumabong's manager, said they plan to have Sumabong defend either of his two regional titles in his next bout. "If he defends his belts—now two, WBO and OPBF—we will still look for a foreign opponent," Podot explained. However, Podot clarified that if a world title opportunity arises, they would not hesitate to take it.
