DTI backs expansion of EV charging, battery-swapping stations

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has expressed support for the establishment of thousands of electric vehicle (EV) charging and battery-swapping stations across the Philippines. The initiative aligns with the department's goal of providing more cost-effective travel for Filipino motorists.

DTI meets with EV brand to discuss expansion

According to a report by Bombo Grant Hilario on July 11, 2026, the DTI held a meeting with an EV brand to discuss expansion plans and the regulatory framework needed to boost EV charging infrastructure. The discussions covered the deployment of 30,000 battery-swapping and charging stations nationwide, which would significantly improve accessibility for electric motorcycle riders.

Compatible e-motorcycles and pre-order details

Among the vehicles highlighted were the e-motorcycle models Evo, Feliz II, and Viper, which are compatible with the planned stations. The DTI announced that pre-orders for these models are open until July 18, with prices starting at PHP 60,000 and a down payment of PHP 3,000, including a six-year warranty.

Expected impact on motorists

The expansion of charging and battery-swapping stations is expected to reduce travel expenses for motorists by promoting the use of electric vehicles. The DTI emphasized that supporting this initiative is part of its broader strategy to encourage sustainable and affordable transportation in the Philippines.
