The impeachment clerk of court has not ruled out the possibility of holding another pre-trial conference for the case against Vice President Sara Duterte, despite the conclusion of a series of conferences on June 25, 2026.
Clerk of Court Atty. Renato Bantug Jr. said a new pre-trial conference may be conducted if the impeachment court decides to grant the prosecution's motion to open the BIR box. The conference would aim to mark the contents of the tax records of VP Sara Duterte and her husband, Atty. Mans Carpio, so they can be included as evidence in the upcoming trial.
Next Steps Await Court Order
Atty. Bantug clarified that they are still awaiting the court's decision on whether to order the opening of the box. If the court issues such an order, the clerk's office must comply immediately. No other dates are being considered for the start of the impeachment trial against VP Duterte aside from the previously scheduled July 6.
The prosecution earlier manifested its intent to open the BIR box containing tax documents, which they believe are crucial to their case. The defense has yet to comment on the possibility of another pre-trial conference.
