DOTr, Cebu Launch Tabang PangByahe Bus Program

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Province of Cebu have launched a project aimed at providing fast, comfortable, and reliable bus travel. Called Tabang PangByahe, it aims to assist the transport sector and ease travel for passengers during the crisis.

Routes and Funding

The program includes a northern route from IT Park in Cebu City to Danao City, and a southern route from Cebu South Bus Terminal in Cebu City to Simala, Sibonga. These routes are just the initial phase. The DOTr has allocated P20 million to the Province of Cebu to support participating bus companies, as many buses have reduced trips due to high fuel costs.

Service Improvements

Buses will receive subsidies to ensure departures every 15 to 20 minutes, regardless of passenger load. Service will run from 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM. All passengers will be accommodated, including those waiting at designated stops in each municipality. The program also aims to discipline passengers by requiring them to wait only at official bus stops.

Under the program, standing passengers are prohibited, and cleanliness of each bus is ensured. Ticketing at terminals will be faster due to quicker bus departures. Regular fares still apply, but discounts are available for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students.

National Rollout

The Province of Cebu will be the first to implement Tabang PangByahe nationwide, followed by Baguio City and Naga City in Bicol. Governor Pamela Baricuatro will lead the initiative, while Mayor Benjie Magalong and Leni Robredo await their turn.

Gratitude is extended to President Bongbong Marcos, DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez, and LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II for choosing Cebu as the pilot area for Tabang PangByahe. Thanks also go to the mayors of the province's municipalities for their support.
