The flood-control project along A.S. Fortuna Street is now 90 percent complete, marking a significant step in solving the area's long-standing flooding problem.
Mayor Ouano Reports Progress
Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano announced that the flood-control measures on A.S. Fortuna are nearly finished, leading to major improvements in one of the city's most flood-prone areas.
“If you observe, we no longer receive complaints about flooding in A.S. Fortuna,” Ouano stated.
Ongoing Work in Barangay Tipolo
However, the mayor acknowledged that work continues in Barangay Tipolo, another area that has long suffered from flooding during heavy rains. He detailed that the drainage improvement project in Tipolo is now 65 percent complete and is expected to be finished this year.
Ouano expressed confidence that once the remaining drainage works are completed, the flooding problem that has troubled residents and motorists for years will be fully resolved.
Other Drainage Rehabilitation Projects
The local government is currently conducting drainage rehabilitation projects in several areas, including P. Remedio Street, where road closure began on May 25, 2026, to facilitate construction. The project is expected to last one month, with a target completion date of July 6.
This rehabilitation is part of a larger effort to improve drainage capacity and water flow throughout the city, especially in areas that are easily flooded during heavy rains.
