Angeles City Launches UÁNGIS Portrait Exhibition Honoring Mayors During National Arts Month

In a vibrant celebration of National Arts Month, the City Government of Angeles has officially inaugurated UÁNGIS – Portrait Paintings of Angeles Mayors. This commemorative exhibition pays tribute to the legacy, leadership, and historical contributions of the city's past and present chief executives, blending artistic expression with civic pride.

Preserving Heritage Through Artistic Vision

Organized under the National Arts Month theme, “Púpul ning Kalalangan, Katutuan at Tépángan,” the exhibit underscores the critical role of arts in safeguarding cultural heritage, reinforcing community identity, and nurturing a sense of belonging among Angeleños. It transforms historical narratives into visual masterpieces that resonate with both residents and visitors.

A Collaborative Initiative Rooted in Continuity

This project was initiated by Mayor Carmelo "Jon" B. Lazatin II to build upon the foundational work of the previous administration led by former Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" G. Lazatin Jr. During Mayor Pogi's tenure, the gallery was established to showcase portraits of past mayors, highlighting their pivotal roles in shaping the growth and transformation of Angeles City.

Upon reviewing the gallery, Mayor Jon identified several portraits that required enhancement. Committed to honoring history with dignity and excellence, he assembled a team of local artists specializing in portrait painting. Their mission was to revitalize these storied likenesses, ensuring that the legacy of Angeles City leadership remains a source of inspiration for future generations.

Artistic Leadership and Distinguished Participation

The curated exhibition is led by Norman Phillip P. Tiotuico of PÁMITÍPUN (Panyúlung ning Kalalangan at Amanang Kabiasnan Kapampungan – Artist Collective). He collaborated with a talented group of Angeleño artists, including:

  • Rolly L. Suba
  • Milan B. Pilares
  • Edu P. Perreras
  • Ramil S. Tumampos
  • Eduardo P. Perreras

The unveiling ceremony attracted a host of distinguished guests, such as former Mayor and CDC Chairman Edgardo D. Pamintuan, former Mayor Francis "Blueboy" Nepomuceno, and former Mayor Maximo L. Sangil. Families and relatives of other former city mayors also attended, adding a profound layer of pride and honor to the event.

A Symbol of Civic Pride and Artistic Excellence

Through the transformative power of art, UÁNGIS serves as more than just a tribute to public service. It celebrates Kapampangan creativity and Angeleño excellence, standing as a powerful symbol of continuity. By honoring the leaders of yesterday, the exhibit inspires present and future generations to embrace integrity, compassion, and dedication in their own contributions to the community.
