Filipino Walker Awaits Guinness World Record Verdict for Epic Cross-Country Journey

Julito Mesa, a native of Iligan City who currently resides in Samar, is eagerly anticipating the outcome of his application to the Guinness Book of Records. This follows his ambitious endeavor to walk across the entire Philippines, a feat that has captured public attention and admiration.

A Journey Spanning Months and Miles

Mesa recently arrived in Butuan City, marking a significant milestone in his trek. He has been walking for seven months and 25 days, starting from Aparri, Cagayan. His goal is to traverse the entire country within one and a half years, though he acknowledges that if challenges arise, it may extend to two years. This determination underscores his commitment to achieving this remarkable personal and potentially record-breaking accomplishment.

Previous Walking Experiences and Documentation

Mesa is no stranger to long-distance walking. In 2024, he began his walking pursuits, having completed four journeys from Samar to Manila and one from Samar to Baguio City. To document his current expedition, he records videos in every barangay or town he passes through. Additionally, he has issued a unique challenge: he offers a reward of 50,000 pesos to anyone who can provide video evidence of him riding a vehicle during this trip, emphasizing his dedication to walking the entire route.

Application and Anticipation

Mesa submitted his application to the Guinness Book of World Records last month and is now awaiting the official result. His story highlights not only physical endurance but also a deep passion for exploring the Philippines on foot, potentially setting a new benchmark in the world of record-breaking achievements.
