SunStar Davao has achieved significant recognition at the 12th Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA@12), with two of its key team members bringing home honors. The awards ceremony, held recently, celebrated regional journalists and digital storytellers across the Philippines.
Davao Journalists Secure Prestigious Honors
Ralph Lawrence Llemit, the Digital Service Head, captured 3rd Place in the Integrated News Category – Photo of the Year. His winning entry, titled “Barefoot in the Rain,” is a powerful image depicting a father and daughter walking barefoot through rain and floodwaters. In a separate special award, Editor-in-Chief Cristina Alivio was named the prestigious Editor of the Year.
Celebrating Digital Progress and Community Stories
Guided by the theme “#DigitallyForward: One Barangay at a Time,” the GMEA@12 recognized 15 media professionals. The program highlighted the crucial role of regional media in amplifying stories about technology access, family aspirations, and national development.
Yoly Crisanto, Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, stated that the awards honor those who capture how digital tools create opportunities. “The rapid move into digital spaces shows how ready Filipinos are to embrace change,” Crisanto said, reaffirming Globe's commitment to bringing technology closer to every home.
