Filipino actor Dennis Trillo has achieved a significant international milestone, securing the prestigious Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the 2025 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA). The ceremony took place on the evening of Thursday, December 4, at the historic Capitol Theatre in Singapore.
A Triumph Over Regional Stars
Trillo's victory was hard-fought, as he emerged victorious from a competitive field of 11 other nominees from across Asia. His performance in the film "Green Bones" impressed the judges enough to surpass acclaimed actors such as Australia's Jacob Elordi, South Korea's Park Bo Gum, and Taiwan's Vic Chou, a member of the popular group F4. This win adds another major accolade to the film's impressive haul, which already includes Best Actor honors for Trillo at the MMFF 2024, Gawad Urian 2025, and the 41st Star Awards for Movies.
Other Filipino Highlights at the AACA
The Philippines' presence was strongly felt beyond Trillo's win. The local adaptation "Saving Grace," based on the celebrated Japanese drama Mother, was recognized with the award for Best Adaptation of an Existing Format. The series stars Julia Montes, Zia Grace, and Sharon Cuneta.
Several other Filipino celebrities graced the event as nominees. Jodi Sta. Maria, who previously won the Best Actress trophy at the AACA in 2022, was nominated again this year for her role in the film "Untold." Also in attendance were veteran actors Piolo Pascual, nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for "The Kingdom," and Dimples Romana, nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for "Caretaker."
A Landmark for Philippine Cinema
Dennis Trillo's win at the Asian Academy Creative Awards is more than a personal achievement; it is a testament to the growing recognition and quality of Philippine talent on the regional stage. By besting well-known stars from other Asian entertainment powerhouses, this victory highlights the world-class caliber of Filipino actors and the compelling stories being told in Philippine cinema. It serves as an inspiration for the local industry and a proud moment for audiences nationwide.
