The Department of Tourism (DOT) has revealed that it is actively in discussions with the Nation's Girl Group, BINI, to appoint them as tourism ambassadors for the Philippines. In a media interview on Tuesday, May 26, DOT Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay shared that the talks involve recognizing the group's representation on the global stage during their performance in April.
DOT Secretary Expresses Pride in BINI's Achievements
“We’re going to talk to them, but they haven’t replied yet because they’re traveling. But we are, you know, we’re so proud that they unfurled the flag on a stage called Coachella. We congratulated them,” Mathay said. Currently, BINI has not yet responded to the DOT's invitation due to their busy preparations for the SIGNALS World Tour 2026.
Recognition from Government and Beyond
The DOT previously honored BINI for being the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella. The recognition also extended to Sophia Laforteza, a Filipina member of the international girl group KATSEYE. Earlier, the House of Representatives approved House Resolution No. 93, recognizing BINI as the “Nation’s Girl Group,” while the Senate of the Philippines unanimously passed a similar resolution congratulating the group.
Composed of members Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, the group performed some of their hit songs such as “Pantropiko” and “Salamin, Salamin” at one of the world's largest music festivals.
